Selling into Austria?
Here's what you owe, and who decides.
BMLUK oversees the Austrian register, with EAK and VKS coordinating the stream-specific routes. Foreign distance sellers use an Austrian authorised representative and EDM. We prepare each registration and keep the three files separate in your dashboard.

Who carries it
Two answers decide whether any of this is yours.
Where your company is established, and whether you sell to consumers or through a local reseller. Those two put you on one of four routes, and the route decides who places the goods on the market in Austria for the first time: the person the law calls the producer.
-
EU seller, selling to consumers
You place the goods on the market in each country you ship to, so you are the producer there, even without a company in it.
-
EU seller, selling through a reseller
Your local reseller is often the first to place the goods on the national market, which can make them the producer instead of you. It depends on the country, and it is the first thing we check.
-
Non-EU seller, selling to consumers
You are the producer in each country you ship to. Several of them also require a representative established there, a role we can fill.
-
Non-EU seller, selling through a reseller
Whoever imports into the EU usually becomes the producer. That may be your reseller, and it may be you. Several countries also require a representative established there.
The scope check asks the two questions and names your route in about five minutes. Check my scope
Streams
Four streams. They never share a file.
Packaging goes to the packaging scheme, electronics to the WEEE register, batteries to the battery register. Mixing them is the most common reason a file comes back.
-
Packaging
- Register
- EDM · ZAReg
- Scheme
- Approved collection and recovery system
A foreign distance seller supplying Austrian end users appoints an authorised representative established in Austria. The representative is recorded in ZAReg and reports the packaging mass.
-
WEEE
- Register
- EDM · ZAReg
- Scheme
- Approved collection and recovery system
Electrical equipment is registered and reported as its own activity. A packaging registration does not cover it.
-
Batteries
- Register
- EDM · ZAReg
- Scheme
- Approved collection and recovery system
Battery activity is recorded separately, including batteries incorporated into equipment.
-
Textiles
We hold no documented source for textile in Austria yet. That does not mean you owe nothing. It means we will not put a claim on this page we cannot back. Ask us and a person will check it.
EDM is the electronic filing environment and ZAReg is its master-data register. Packaging, WEEE and batteries stay separate inside that system, and each stream also requires participation in an approved collection and recovery system.
Dates
The dates that cost money if you miss them.
Everything on this page carries the day we last checked its source. Where a value is not published by the sources we hold, the line says so rather than filling itself in.
- —
No declaration date in our sources
Our sources for Austria do not publish one. We would rather leave this blank than print a date you might plan around. The review names the calendar that actually applies to your file.
Legal basis on this page: AWG 2002 · Waste Management Act · Verpackungsverordnung · packaging · Elektroaltgeräteverordnung · WEEE · Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 · batteries.
What we do
We prepare and we submit. BMLUK, EAK and VKS decide.
Every line below is something we do, not something we obtain. The difference matters on a page about Austria: the register decides whether and when to accept a file, and no provider can promise otherwise.
- Prepare your registrations for EDM and ZAReg, in the shape BMLUK, EAK and VKS ask for.
- Submit each stream separately, to its own register or scheme.
- File the declarations that follow, on the calendar Austria runs.
- Record every response from BMLUK, EAK, VKS and the schemes, and tell you what it means in plain English.
- Resubmit at no extra fee if a file we prepared comes back.
Price
Per country. Austria is one of them.
The same single fee applies everywhere we run. What changes between countries is what the scheme charges on top, and that is billed by them, never by us.
Before scheme and authority fees. See our fees
No setup fee, and the same figure every year. Open a second country and it is the same figure again: the account is shared, the fee is not.
In your coverage
Austria is one row. Here's the rest.
This is the part a national site cannot do for you. One account holds every country you open, one calendar holds every date, and one dashboard says where each file stands, including the ones you have not started.
We run a local entry point in ten of the twenty-seven countries listed. See all countries
Questions about Austria
Three answers we give on every file in Austria.
They are the same three everywhere we run, and only the names change. The scope check answers the first one for your company in about five minutes; BMLUK, EAK and VKS decide the second, which is why we say what we do about it rather than what we obtain.
Do I need a company in Austria?
No. This is built for non-resident sellers. Depending on the country and stream you may need an authorised representative established there. That's a role we can fill, and the scope check says whether you need one.
What if the file is rejected?
It happens, usually because a product spec or a company document doesn't match. We tell you what came back, in plain English, and resubmit once it's fixed. No extra fee for a resubmission on a file we prepared.
I already have a provider in Austria.
Keep them. You can start with the countries you don't cover yet, and the dashboard still shows Austria so your calendar is in one place.

Going further
The local detail lives on epraustria.com.
We run that site too. It carries the long-form guidance for Austria, in more depth than this page, and it is the canonical source for the national detail. This page is about how Austria fits into everything else you owe.

shippeu.com is an independent private service. It is not a government office, an authority, a register or a collective scheme, and it is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by BMLUK, EDM, EAK, VKS. Each authority and each scheme decides independently whether and when to accept an application.
